In May, I bought an insurance policy from Allstate. I set up automatic withdrawal from my bank account. My policy was canceled twice due to non payment, when it turns out Allstate never even attempted to bill my account.
Yesterday, I called them to give them my account information AGAIN, and was told they couldn’t reinstate my policy because it was canceled twice for non payment. I’d have to apply for a new policy.
I told them to pound sand, and went to State Farm. They turned out to be ten bucks a month cheaper.
If Allstate is so incompetent that it can’t even figure out how to take my money, I can only imagine the woes I’d go through if I needed to make a claim.
Allstate sucks. And has popped up in my CivPro casebook more than once.
Does not bode well.
We had almost the exact same problem with allstate. We moved and got new bank accounts all at the same time so we called up and gave them our new information. They told us that since we had moved that the cost of our policy might change so they would figure out what the new cost was going to be and they would send us a bill in the mail. After a few weeks we got our new policy in the mail but still no bill. A few more weeks later and we get a letter in the mail saying that our policy was canceled due to nonpayment. WTH, how can you cancel someones policy for failure to pay when you told them not to pay until they get a bill in mail and you never send them a bill?
